It Is Lucrative To Pick A Winner!

Matthew Barnaby was a little pest on ice when he was playing hockey in the NHL - his huge setback was that he never found a worthwhile cause to be pestilent for! He played on such loser line-ups such as the Buffaloooooo Sabres and the New York Rangers - teams that went nowhere but DOWN. He inspired such venomous vipers on skates such as current Ranger Sean Avery; just as he took his inspiration from the master, former Boston Bruin Ken Linseman! But those are other stories...

But now, Barnaby has remodeled himself, as so many former NHLers do: he's reformed as a sportscaster now. He believes that his experience in the game translates well onto the TV screen as an analyst of sorts and an all-around expert - and so do the people that hired him. He makes predictions that, oftentimes, are close enough to match reality so as to feed his allure of an "expert" and a pundit, simultaneously. At the beginning of these playoffs of spring 2011, he selected a bunch of teams to win their respective series and advance - but he reserves the right to re-analyze things, apparently... And so, faced with the battling Boston Bruins' determination, poise and will to win displayed in the opening games of their second-round (and second go-around, in two years) series against the pesky Philadelphia Flyers, he makes an about-face and goes back on his prediction based upon... bias, really.

And he commits it all to video too:

Barnaby, along with other pundits, had originally picked the Flyers this year - again. But seeing as the Bruins are simply more "ready to play," he now calls the Bruins "dominant" and even "unbeatable" once their power play issues are resolved! Wow - it took a 7-3 victory in game one and then a dominant defensive performance in game two for Barnaby to see the light! Before those two events, Barnaby could not recognize that it is the Bruins who have a Norris trophy nominee in their ranks, defenseman Zdeno Chara, not the Flyers! The latter team's prized Chris Pronger is neither a candidate nor even able to play so far: and when he does play, he is not the kind of defenseman that changes the pace of a game, otherwise he'd be nominated for the Norris too! The rest of the Flyers line-up is made up of mercenaries of all ilks - while the Boston Bruins are a real TEAM.

It took these two reminders -the 7-3 win and the 3-2 overtime win- to remind everyone and Barnaby that it is the Boston Bruins that have this huge edge: IN NET... For to win in hockey, you need solid goal-tending! And the Boston Bruins's goal-tending is a hell of a lot more solid than the Flyers' revolving door system! All that the Boston team needs to do is to keep doing it exactly as they are now and, this time, there won't be any unforeseen debacles due to a simple (and perhaps chronic) lack of LUCK... Not until rounds three or four anyhow - but that is another story!

Until then, prognosticators from all walks of life can adjust to reality...
(Analysts such as PJ Stock know the truth already - others, such as Barry Melrose and Barnaby here, will carry on "adjusting" all throughout...!)

And the pundits will make their money in the meantime - looking good as they merely state the facts AFTER the fact(s)...!

Place your bets accordingly now - it shall be quite lucrative indeed to do so, at long last...
;)
